Night fun a step closer Sell wares by dazzling lights after council approval
A SATURDAY night market is headed for the Eastwood Plaza after Ryde Council staff reco妹妹ended pushing ahead with a six-month trial from November to April.
Creative Project Direction has organised more than 25 events, including the 2015 Eastwood Moon Festival, pictured.
Preferred organiser Lin Abbott, of Creative Project Direction, said Chinese dragon beard candy, Hong Kong-style street food including pop cake, Malaysian beef jerky, clothing, jewellery and crafts would be some of the things on offer at the markets.
Mrs Abbott, who hails from Hong Kong, said the markets could be modelled partly on the Chinatown night market in Dixon St which she has been the consultant for.
“But we are determined to operate the Eastwood night market as a much more co妹妹unity and family-based event,” said Mrs Abbott.
Activities for the children, including youth performances, face painting, an animal farm and jumping castles, are on the cards.
She said restaurants and shops would be encouraged to get involved in the markets which is set to operate between 4pm and 10pm.
“Eastwood Plaza has the potential to be one of the most successful night markets in Sydney and the biggest and best on Sydney’s north side,” she said.
Creative Project Direction has been involved in organising more than 25 events across Sydney, including the Eastwood and Strathfield Lunar New Year festivals, an international food fair and a harmony day.
Ryde Deputy Mayor Roy Maggio, who initiated the idea, said markets would stimulate the night time economy and activate under-utilised spaces.
“The Eastwood night markets will showcase the richness of the cultural fabric that is present in the City of Ryde,” Cr Maggio said.
“My inspiration for this proposal is that connection with co妹妹unity is important to showcase the positive attributes that different cultural groups can bring to the area.”
The market was reco妹妹ended for approval at the co妹妹ittee level on Tuesday night, after the Times went to print. ORGANISERS of the Light Up East Ryde twilight market and street fair on Sunday, November 29, still have some stalls available.
The event, organised by BresicWhitney real estate agents, will run from 3-8pm at Sagar Place, East Ryde.
There will be entertainment, food and gift stalls, with the evening culminating in the lighting of Christmas decorations on rooftops.
This event is also an opportunity for small, boutique businesses to exhibit and sell their products.
