Migratory birds, especially waterbirds, fly vast distances between breeding and feeding places.
The NSW Government has a key responsibility under International Agreements to manage migratory waterbird habitat in a responsible manner. This includes providing these special places with water so they maintain food supply.
The NSW Government’s approach to water sharing under the Murray Darling Basin Plan will not provide a good outcome for migratory water birds.
I ask that you ensure the Minister for the Environment maintains a concurrence role for water sharing plans in NSW, and ensure that Ramsar Wetlands, like the Macquarie Marshes, Gwydir Wetlands and other key waterbird areas get a fair share of water.
To protect our iconic inland wetlands.
