I have been to Darwin for over a week. I only can share some of my experience.When i stayed there, we have very close friends there. I have known a lot of Darwin.
Nice city to visit.But i could not live there.
Weather:
There are only two seasons in Darwin.
Dry seanson starts from May 1 Till End of Oct. Cool at night time, hot no rain.
Wet seanson starts from NOv 01 till end of Apil. raining, floooding
About Renting.
very very expensive, because Darwin is tourist town, there are so many apartments and holiday parts. And a lot of units are rented by tourists as well due to the events in Darwin never ending.Some People even stay there 2 month a year for their holiday.
Another fact to push the rental price very high: casual workers in mining and their related industries. They come from all over AU and rent in Darwin . They rent in Darwin and work in the mine.
About food:
The food prices in super market like Coles,& safeway are much higher than Melbourne and Sydney due to the tourist fact.
They do have some fruit market, cheaper.
About the wage
I read the local paper about the employment. 50-60,000 a year is nothing compared to their living cost.
By the way, Please check where you will work in Darwin. There are so many new suburs in Darwin now. The center of Darwin is very very small. YOu can walk around within one hour.
