Farmers fear ‘commercial retribution’ in supermarket contracts
Farmers say Australia’s supermarket giants are slugging them to pay for consumer specials, cutting the price paid for fresh produce at the same time as customers are offered cost-of-living discounts.
The National Farmers Federation told a Senate inquiry that fruit and vegetable producers who spoke out about the supermarkets’ aggressive behaviour risked “commercial retribution”, and warned that Australia’s food security was under threat.
