Owner Builder只是监视办理，证书好拿。你还得本人找人做，还得Garantee六年，还不如交给Granny Flat的公司，省钱又省心。
固然你假如想建偷工减料的，而后卖，可能省不少。

Owner builder 建房其实不省钱。 大少数是费神又多花钱。除非你是干这一行的。

I got my owner builder permit. However, I did not build the granny flat myself. The cost of building myself vs being built by a professional builder is almost the same, if not more. So in the end, a builder did it for me. I am very glad I made the right decision. It is not worth building it yourself. Unless you want to gain experience in building industry.

Sure. I had similar thinking to yours - wanted to save money and have full control of the building process. After obtained my Owner Builder Permit, I started to get quotes … while I got a quote from builder as well. If I manage the project myself, the cost is slightly lower than the builder. However, when you actually purchasing all material, you may spend much more given you do not bulk/builder discount and some purchases must be made in certain quantity like bricks, etc. So you may need to pay more in the end.

Also, if some subcontractors do a dodge job, it is not easy to get them back to fix it up - they treat you as a once-off job, no repeat business. They will be very reluctant to come back. In the end, you may not be able to guarantee the quality of the job - or it will take much longer to rectify any defects, longer delay for your building process.
