There is nothing wrong with your chicklets. The primary reason why they die is you are not keeping them warm enough. A rabbit hutch is definitely not suitable for young chicklets in winter. Wooden boxes is better and they just need a crack for ventilation purpose. Even carton boxes are better than you rabbit hutch. Use a thermometer to monitor closely the temperature for the chicklets. Keep it at least above 33 degrees for the first few weeks. Use an infrared heat globe instead of the ordinary lamp. In the daytime, you can keep the chicklets in the sun to save on your power bills.
There might be another factor that led to the death of the chicklets, i.e. your choice of feed. Use the right type of feed for them, i.e. the starter feed for young chicklets. Though they eat other type of feed, they may not digest well to get sufficient nutrition and energy to grow. |
